Karachi Halwa
Karachi halva is a specialty dessert from Karachi, Sindh. In Urdu, the word halva حلوہ denotes "sweets", while a pastry maker is called Halvai حلواى. Also from southern part of Punjab province, the Sohan Halwa is famous in the country. Equally famous is Habshi halwa, a dark brown milk-based halwa introduced in the sub-continent. -Source: wikipedia
Ingredients
- 1 cup Corn flour
- 2 – 3 cup Sugar, White / சர்க்கரை, வெள்ளை - adjust to your taste
- ¼ cup Cashew nut / முந்திரிப் பருப்பு
- 1 – 2 pinch Food color, Orange
- 2½ cups Water / தண்ணீர்
- 1 tsp Cardamom, Green / ஏலக்காய் - powder
- 75 gm Ghee / நெய்
Instructions
- Add 1½ cups of water to corn flour little by little and mix well such that no lumps are formed
- Add edible colouring powder to the above mixture and mix well
- Grease a tray with ghee
- Roast cashew nuts in little ghee
- Heat 1 cup of water and sugar and make into a syrup
- When the sugar syrup thickens add the corn flour mixture little by little such that no lumps are formed
- Stir well until the mixture rolls up and leaves the sides of the pan
- Add roasted cashew nuts, cardamom powder and mix well
- Switch off the flame and transfer the mixture to the greased tray and allow it to cool for about 45min~1hr
- Slice and serve
