Thiruvathirai Kali
Thiruvathira or Thiruvathirai or Arudhra Darisanam (Malayalam: തിരുവാതിര) is a Hindu festival celebrated in the South Indian state of Kerala and Tamil nadu. Thiruvathirai(Arudhra) in Tamil means “sacred big wave”, using which this universe was created by Lord Shiva about 132 trillion years ago. Ingredients
- 1 cup Rice / அரிசி
- 2 tbsp Moong Dhal / பயத்தம் பருப்பு
- 1 cup Jaggery / வெல்லம்
- 1 cup Coconut / தேங்காய் - grated
- 10 nos Cashew nut / முந்திரிப் பருப்பு
- 2 tbsp Ghee / நெய்
- 1 nos Cardamom, Green / ஏலக்காய்
- 3 cup Water / தண்ணீர்
Instructions
- Roast the rice and moong dhal a little in a dry pan
- Grind rice and moong dhal coarsely
- Dissolve jaggery in 3cups of water
- Boil jaggery water
- Mix coconut while boiling and mix well
- When boiling mix the coarse rice and stir firmly and cook well
- When cooked heat ghee in a separate pan add cashew nut, cardamom
- Mix well with kali and stir well for 5min in low flame
- Serve hot with special Thiruvadhirai Koottu
