Karadaiyaan Uppadai
Ingredients
- 1 cup Rice, raw / பச்சரிசி
- 2 tbsp Black-eyed Peas
- ½ cup Coconut, Fresh / தேங்காய் - cut into thin slices
- 2 nos Green Chili, Fresh / பச்சை மிளகாய் - chopped
- ½ inch Ginger / இஞ்சி - minced
- 2 tsp Curry leaves, Fresh / கருவேப்பிலை - chopped
- 1 tsp Mustard seed / கடுகு
- 1 tsp Chana Dhal / கடலைப் பருப்பு
- 1 tbsp Oil / எண்ணெய்
- 2½ cup Water / தண்ணீர்
- ½ tsp Salt / உப்பு - adjust to your taste
Instructions
- Soak rice for about 1hr and dry it over a cloth
- Soak black-eyed peas for 10min and drain water
- Grind rice into a smooth flour, sieve it if required
- Roast rice flour a little
- Heat oil in a pan
- Temper mustard and fry channa dhal until golden brown
- Add curry leaves, green chili, ginger and fry well
- Add water, salt and bring to a boil
- Now add black-eyed peas, rice flour little by little and mix well, without forming lumps
- Stir it until it solidifies
- Switch off the flame and allow it to cool a little
- Grease your hands and make patties out of the mixture thus prepared
- Make a hole in the center
- Steam it just like idlis for 10min
- Serve hot with butter
