Ingredients
  

for masala

  • 1 tsp Oil / எண்ணெய்
  • 4 nos Onion, Small / வெங்காயம், சிறியது - peeled
  • ½ cup Coconut, Fresh / தேங்காய் - grated
  • 1 tsp Urad Dhal / உளுத்தம் பருப்பு
  • 5 nos Black Pepper / மிளகு
  • 1 tsp Coriander seed / தனியா
  • 1 tsp Fenugreek seed / வெந்தயம்
  • 4 nos Red Chili, Dry / வற மிளகாய் - (adjust to your spice level)
  • 5 nos Curry leaves, Fresh / கருவேப்பிலை

for tempering

  • 2 tbsp Coconut Oil / தேங்காய் எண்ணெய்
  • 1 tsp Mustard seed / கடுகு
  • 1 tsp Urad Dhal / உளுத்தம் பருப்பு
  • 1 tsp Chana Dhal / கடலைப் பருப்பு
  • 5 nos Curry leaves, Fresh / கருவேப்பிலை
  • 1 bunch Coriander leaves, Fresh / கொத்தமல்லி

Instructions
 

  • Heat oil in a pan
  • Add small onion, sauté for 2min
  • Add urad dhal, black pepper, coriander seed, fenugreek seed, dry red chili, fresh curry leaves, fry them until golden brown
  • Switch off the heat, add coconut, mix well, allow it to cool
  • Grind into fine paste by adding little water

Preparation

  • Add raw banana, tamarind extract, turmeric powder, salt, red chili powder into a saucepan, bring to boil, then simmer until banana is cooked well
  • Add ground masala, add water if required to adjust consistency

Tempering

  • Heat coconut oil in a pan
  • Add mustard and allow it to crackle, add urad dhal, channa dhal, curry leaves, fry a bit
  • Add it to pulingari
  • Garnish with coriander leaves

Notes

  • Serve hot with hot rice or roti
