Ingredients
  

  • 250 gm Bitter Gourd / பாகற் காய் - cut into small pieces
  • 15 nos Red Chili, Dry / வற மிளகாய் - adjust to your spice level
  • 2 tsp Chana Dhal / கடலைப் பருப்பு
  • ½ tsp Urad Dhal / உளுத்தம் பருப்பு
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida / பெருங்காயம்
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder / மஞ்சள் தூள்
  • 1 tsp Cumin seed / சீரகம்
  • 2 tsp Sesame seed, Black / எள்ளு, கருப்பு
  • 1 tsp Mustard seed / கடுகு
  • 1 lemon size Tamarind extract / புளிக் கரைசல்
  • 2 tsp Jaggery / வெல்லம் - grated
  • 1 tsp Salt / உப்பு - adjust to your taste
  • 2 tsp Coconut, Fresh / தேங்காய் - grated
  • 2 tsp Oil / எண்ணெய்
  • 1 bunch Curry leaves, Fresh / கருவேப்பிலை
  • 1 bunch Coriander leaves, Fresh / கொத்தமல்லி

Instructions
 

  • Heat little oil in a pan
  • Fry red Chilli, channa dhal, urad dhal, asafoetida, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, and sesame, keep it aside
  • Add coconut to above and grind it well
  • Add rest of oil and season the mustard seeds
  • Add the small pieces of karela into it and cook it well
  • Add tamarind extract, salt and cook it for 5min
  • Once this boils well, add ground masala paste in it
  • Add little jaggery cook it well
  • Serve hot with rice
