Karadaiyaan Velladai
Ingredients
- 1 cup Rice, raw / பச்சரிசி
- 2 tbsp Black-eyed Peas
- ½ cup Coconut, Fresh / தேங்காய் - cut into thin slices
- 1 cup Jaggery / வெல்லம் - grated
- 3 nos Cardamom, Green / ஏலக்காய் - powdered
- 1 tsp Ginger powder, Dry / சுக்குப் பொடி - powdered (optional)
- ½ tsp Oil / எண்ணெய்
- 2½ cup Water / தண்ணீர்
Instructions
- Soak rice for about 1hr and dry it over a cloth
- Soak black-eyed peas for 10min and drain water
- Grind rice into a smooth flour, sieve it if required
- Roast rice flour a little
- Heat water in a pan
- Add black-eyed peas and bring to a boil
- Add jaggery and allow it to dissolve stir occasionally
- Add coconut
- Once all jaggery dissolves, add rice flour little by little and mix well, without forming lumps
- Add cardamom, dry ginger powder and mix well
- Stir it until it solidifies
- Switch off the flame and allow it to cool a little
- Grease your hands and make patties out of the mixture thus prepared
- Make a hole in the center
- Steam it just like idlis for 10min
- Serve hot with butter
