Karela Gotsu
Ingredients
- 250 gm Bitter Gourd / பாகற் காய் - cut into small pieces
- 15 nos Red Chili, Dry / வற மிளகாய் - adjust to your spice level
- 2 tsp Chana Dhal / கடலைப் பருப்பு
- ½ tsp Urad Dhal / உளுத்தம் பருப்பு
- 1 pinch Asafoetida / பெருங்காயம்
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder / மஞ்சள் தூள்
- 1 tsp Cumin seed / சீரகம்
- 2 tsp Sesame seed, Black / எள்ளு, கருப்பு
- 1 tsp Mustard seed / கடுகு
- 1 lemon size Tamarind extract / புளிக் கரைசல்
- 2 tsp Jaggery / வெல்லம் - grated
- 1 tsp Salt / உப்பு - adjust to your taste
- 2 tsp Coconut, Fresh / தேங்காய் - grated
- 2 tsp Oil / எண்ணெய்
- 1 bunch Curry leaves, Fresh / கருவேப்பிலை
- 1 bunch Coriander leaves, Fresh / கொத்தமல்லி
Instructions
- Heat little oil in a pan
- Fry red Chilli, channa dhal, urad dhal, asafoetida, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, and sesame, keep it aside
- Add coconut to above and grind it well
- Add rest of oil and season the mustard seeds
- Add the small pieces of karela into it and cook it well
- Add tamarind extract, salt and cook it for 5min
- Once this boils well, add ground masala paste in it
- Add little jaggery cook it well
- Serve hot with rice
