Ingredients
  

  • 1 bunch Manaththakali leaves, Fresh / மணத்தக்காளிக் கீரை - cooked and smashed
  • 1 cup Coconut, Fresh / தேங்காய் - grated
  • 5-6 nos Red Chili, Dry / வற மிளகாய் - adjust to your spice level
  • 2 tsp Urad Dhal / உளுத்தம் பருப்பு
  • 1 tsp Cumin seed / சீரகம்
  • 1 tsp Mustard seed / கடுகு
  • 1 tsp Chana Dhal / கடலைப் பருப்பு
  • 2 tbsp Oil / எண்ணெய்
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida / பெருங்காயம்
  • 1 tsp Salt / உப்பு - adjust to your taste

Instructions
 

  • Heat little oil in a pan
  • Roast red chili, urad dhal, reserve one red chili for tadka
  • Grind roasted cumin, red chili, urad dhal, coconut into a fine paste
  • Mix with the cooked leaves, add little water if required, bring to a boil
  • Heat rest of oil
  • Add mustard, allow it to splutter
  • Add channa dhal, urad dhal, red chili, fry well
  • Add to kootu

Notes

Serve hot along with hot hot rice
