Ingredients
  

  • ½ cup Thoor dhal / துவரம் பருப்பு
  • 2 tbsp Ghee / நெய்
  • 2 nos Cloves / லவங்கம்
  • 2 inch Cinnamon stick / லவங்கப் பட்டை
  • ½ tsp Mustard seed / கடுகு
  • ½ tsp Cumin seed / சீரகம்
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida / பெருங்காயம்
  • ½ tsp Ginger / இஞ்சி - paste
  • ½ tsp Green Chili, Fresh / பச்சை மிளகாய் - paste, adjust to your spice level
  • ½ tsp Turmeric powder / மஞ்சள் தூள்
  • ½ tsp Red Chili powder / மிளகாய்த் தூள் - adjust to your spice level
  • 2 tbsp Jaggery / வெல்லம் - grated
  • 1 bunch Curry leaves, Fresh / கருவேப்பிலை
  • 2 tbsp Coriander leaves, Fresh / கொத்தமல்லி - chopped
  • ½ tsp Black Pepper / மிளகு - freshly ground
  • 1 tsp Salt / உப்பு - adjust to your taste

Instructions
 

  • Pressure cook thoor dal up to 4~5 whistles, cool it down
  • Strain cooked dal, keep the liquid aside
  • Heat ghee in a pan
  • Add cloves, cinnamon, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, allow the mustard to crackle
  • Add asafoetida, curry leaves, sauté for few seconds
  • Add drained liquid, green chili paste, ginger paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, jaggery, salt, pepper, mix well
  • Bring to a boil
  • Simmer for about 15min, stir well occasionally
  • Garnish with coriander leaves
