Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Chana Dhal / கடலைப் பருப்பு
  • 1 cup Chana Dhal, roasted / பொட்டுக் கடலை
  • 5 - 7 nos Red Chili, Dry / வற மிளகாய் - adjust to your spice level
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper / மிளகு
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida / பெருங்காயம்
  • 3 tbsp Coconut, Fresh / தேங்காய் - desiccated, optional
  • 4 - 5 nos Garlic / பூண்டு - optional
  • 1 tsp Ghee / நெய்
  • 1 tsp Salt / உப்பு - adjust to your taste

Instructions
 

  • Roast red chili in ghee
  • Add channa dhal, roasted channa dhal, and roast along until they change color
  • Add garlic, pepper, and roast
  • Switch off the flame
  • Add coconut mix and allow to cool
  • Grind into a soft powder
  • Sieve if required to get the uniform texture and grind the granules again
  • Mix asafoetida, salt well
  • Store in an airtight container

Notes

Serve along with hot rice with ghee
