Ingredients
  

  • 500 gm Papaya, Raw / பப்பாளிக் காய் - peeled n cut into ½inch pieces
  • ½ cup Coconut Milk / தேங்காய்ப் பால் - optional
  • 1 cup Yogurt / தயிர்
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder / மஞ்சள் தூள்
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida / பெருங்காயம்
  • 1 tbsp Oil / எண்ணெய்
  • 1 tsp Mustard seed / கடுகு
  • 1 tsp Salt / உப்பு - adjust to your taste
  • 1 bunch Coriander leaves, Fresh / கொத்தமல்லி
  • 1 bunch Curry leaves, Fresh / கருவேப்பிலை

for Masala

  • 5 nos Red Chili, Dry / வற மிளகாய் - adjust to your spice level
  • 1 nos Onion / வெங்காயம் - randomly cut
  • ½ inch Ginger / இஞ்சி - randomly chopped
  • 3 nos Garlic / பூண்டு - randomly chopped
  • 1 tbsp Peanut / வேர்க் கடலை
  • 10 nos Cashew nut / முந்திரிப் பருப்பு
  • 1 tsp Cumin seed / சீரகம்
  • 2 tsp Coriander seed / தனியா

Instructions
 

  • Grind dry red chili, onion, garlic, ginger, peanut, cashew nuts, cumin seeds, coriander seeds into fine paste by adding very little water, keep aside
  • Heat oil in a pan
  • Add mustard, allow it to splutter
  • Add turmeric powder, asafoetida, curry leaves, raw papaya, stir fry
  • Sprinkle little water, close cook, for a couple of minutes
  • Add the ground paste, salt, mix well
  • Add about 1~1½cup of water
  • Simmer it for another 15min, until papaya cooks tender
  • Add coconut milk, yogurt, bring to a boil

Notes

Serve hot along with any rice item
