Ingredients
  

  • 2 cup Wheat Rava - roasted
  • 1 nos Potato / உருளைக் கிழங்கு - long cut
  • 1 nos Tomato / தக்காளி - finely chopped
  • 2 nos Onion / வெங்காயம் - long cut
  • 4 – 5 nos Bay leaf, Dry - long cut
  • 10 nos Green Peas, Fresh / பச்சைப் பட்டாணி
  • 1 nos Carrot / காரெட் - finely chopped
  • 1 bunch Coriander leaves, Fresh / கொத்தமல்லி
  • 1 bunch Curry leaves, Fresh / கருவேப்பிலை
  • 1 inch Ginger / இஞ்சி - finely chopped
  • 2 nos Green Chili, Fresh / பச்சை மிளகாய் - long slit, adjust to your spice level
  • 2 tsp Mustard seed / கடுகு
  • 1 tsp Chana Dhal / கடலைப் பருப்பு
  • 1 tsp Urad Dhal / உளுத்தம் பருப்பு
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida / பெருங்காயம்
  • 1 nos Red Chili, Dry / வற மிளகாய் - optional
  • 3 tbsp Sesame Oil / நல்லெண்ணெய்
  • 2 tbsp Ghee / நெய் - optional
  • 10 nos Cashew nut / முந்திரிப் பருப்பு
  • 1 tsp Salt / உப்பு - adjust to your taste
  • 5 cup Water / தண்ணீர் - boiling

Instructions
 

  • Heat oil in a pan
  • Temper mustard in it
  • Add  urad dhal, channa dhal and fry until golden brown
  • Add curry leaves
  • Add onion and sauté it well until raw smell goes off
  • Add asafoetida and mix well
  • Add all vegetables and sauté them well until they are cooked
  • Add salt and mix well
  • Add roasted rava and mix well, keep mixing for a minute or two
  • Add coriander leaves
  • Now gently pour boiling water into the pan and stir well, usually in this method lumps should not form, but take care as to not to form lumps
  • Close the pan with a lid and leave it to cook for 2~3min in medium flame
  • Add ghee, mix well
  • If you like to roast the bottom of upma continue it for another 4~5min in medium flame
  • Serve hot with any chutneys and/or pickles and/or thick curd
