Pressure cook soaked chana up to 5whistles with little salt and sufficient water
Heat oil in a pan
Sauté coconut, ginger, garlic, half of cut onion, half of cut tomato, a ladle of cooked chana and grind it into a fine paste
Heat rest of oil
Sauté red chili and curry leaves and keep aside
Temper mustard seeds and sauté rest of cut onions and shallots until raw smell goes off
Add green chili, tomato and sauté until mushy
Add the ground paste and sauté well
Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, asafoetida, coriander powder, salt and cook well
Add cooked chana along with the water used for cooking and allow it to boil in medium flame
Garnish with sautéd red chili, curry leaves and fresh coriander leaves
Serve hot with Puttu
