Heat oil in a pan
Temper mustard and fry curry leaves
Add asafoetida, turmeric powder, red chili powder and fry a little
Add the cut purple yam and mix well
Sprinkle salt, garam masala powder over it and allow it to cook in low flame until yam turns tender
Make a thin paste of besan
Add mix and cook well
Allow the yam to roast
Serve hot with rice
